First Post

Welcome to my new blog. I am trying to work on my writing skills while at the same time contribute to the already vast amount of information already available on the Internet. This blog will assume the user has some very basic computer skills (I assume if you found me you can turn the computer on). I will begin at a very basic level and guide the user to a working understanding of the topic in question. This first post will be extremely basic but we will be building on this base very rapidly to the point were even people who are extremely proficient will be learning.

My first post is going to cover signing up for a Google account. I will reference Google often as I find most of their products to be the best available and so quite a few of the first postings will be about Google products. Not to worry we will branch out soon enough.

First go to www.gmail.com, then navigate to the top right hand corner and click "sign in". We will then navigate to the middle of the right side of the screen and click where it says "Create an account".

If you have an email account that you would like to keep, you can sign up for a google account instead by following the same directions at www.google.com instead of www.gmail.com. I do recommend you open a GMail account and move away from you old email provider for many reasons. The most basic reason is that Gmail is free so if you change Internet provider you can keep the same email address.

Now that you have click on create an account fill in the required fields. Make sure that your password is something that you can remember very easily. If you will have problems remembering your password write it down but make sure to keep it in a safe place that is easy for you to get to. You now have a Google account which is going to be a necessary building foundation in learning to make the Internet work for you.

For most readers I know this is very basic but my intention is to assure that anyone reading my blog is able to follow along with the rest of us. Stay tuned for my next blog on RSS feeds.
